How I Found Reiki (Or Maybe How It Found Me!)
As I prepare to launch my new online courses for Usui Reiki Level 1 and Level 2, I’ve been reflecting on my own path. My life has been completely transformed by energy healing, but I’ll be honest: I wasn't always a believer. In fact, I used to be a total skeptic - until my own lived experience proved just how powerful this practice truly is.
From Skeptic to Seeker: My first experiences of distance Reiki Healing
I first heard about Reiki during Season 1 of the Long Covid Hope Podcast. My guest, Lorrie Rivers, shared how she had recovered from eight years of ME/CFS and a year of Long Covid through energy work. You can listen to the full episode right here if you are interested.
At the time, it didn’t resonate. Like many people, I cast Reiki into a ‘net’ of things I just didn’t believe in: somewhere between homeopathic myths and flat-earth theories. I wasn't interested.
The Turning Point: Bedbound Again
Everything changed in the Spring of 2022. I suffered a very public Covid reinfection that left me bedbound with a severe fatigue flare. Lying there feeling miserable, I suddenly remembered my conversation with Lorrie. Out of options and desperate for relief, I found one of her emails and pressed play on a healing recording.
The result astonished me. I felt immediate relief from my symptoms. This sent me down a YouTube rabbit hole, listening to more energy healing tracks. With every session, I felt physical sensations I couldn’t explain and an overwhelming sense of calm. Often, I’d fall into a deep, restorative sleep. Remarkably, I regained my energy and bounced back from that fatigue dip in record time.
Finding My Lineage
I felt a magnetic pull to understand how this worked. I had so many questions: What is actually happening? How is this possible?
I decided to go straight to the source of the healings I enjoyed most: Jamie Butler. I signed up for her training and counted down the days. Intuitively, I knew this wasn't just for me; given my background teaching Yoga for Long Covid, I realized this could be a vital tool for my students, too.
Training with Jamie was a beautiful experience. I received the traditional and modern introduction to Usui Reiki, followed by distance attunements. It felt like a true honour to become 8th Generation to Dr. Usui himself.
"Mummy, Can I Have Some Hot Hands?"
As I began practicing, I noticed that while some friends were skeptical, others were incredibly receptive. My young daughter, in particular, became my biggest fan. She would often come up to me and ask: “Mummy, can I have some hot hands?” :-)
From Yoga to Reiki
Once I felt ready, I began offering online Remote Reiki sessions on LearnitLive . It was a fascinating exploration. I found myself naturally weaving my yoga and meditation training into the sessions, creating full meditative events supported by crystals.
The feedback was wonderful, and I noticed a shift: while my yoga attendance was steady, my Reiki sessions were booming. I took the hint and followed the flow. Today, I still offer popular monthly Reiki healings on Learnitlive and on Insight Timer app, as well as in-person Crystal Reiki Healing sessions at Airy Fairy on London Road in Sheffield.
Stepping into my Master Teacher era
Now, the circle feels complete. I am ready to teach this wonderful modality to you.
I’ve designed my Usui Reiki Level 1 and Level 2 courses to be different. They are streamlined, pacing-friendly and specifically built for my core client group: those navigating chronic illness.
Live or Recorded: Attendance is preferred but not required - everything is recorded.
Accessible Attunements: Just as I received mine, your Reiki attunements will be provided remotely.
Small Circles: Class sizes are kept very small to ensure you have the support you need during the session and in the 21 days of healing afterwards
